Tumbling Tumblers!

I returned from a trip to New Mexico and glazed 18 tumblers with a multi-layer process that I had created last year. These had been admired and sold well at the West Windsor craft show and at my open studio.

Two patterns were used to build the tumblers. One pattern has straight sides and the other tapered. While the clay is still soft, their forms are lightly tapped to give them some character and make them easier to hold.

In glazing them, I first glaze the inside white but not the outside. The white clay is the white background for the surface treatment.

I have described the process before in a post, consisting of both opaques and transparent celadon glaze areas, and collaged underglaze transfers.

This time I played more with color. I made the straight pattern tumblers in shades of blue and black.

The taller tapered tumblers had three celadon glaze colors, while the shorter just two.

Of these variations of shape and color, I think I like the blue straight sided tumblers best.

I have sent photos out to one venue that I heard was interested in carrying local craft items, and not heard back. Some feedback would be nice, but what can I expect? These are not for everyone, and no doubt can be improved on. I enjoy making them and will try to develop and refine the basic design.
